Animal carcasses found on state roadways in Hammonton should be reported to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). To report a deer carcass traffic hazard on a state highway or interstate, please contact the NJDOT by calling 609-588-6212.

Animal carcasses found on county roadways in the town should be reported to the Atlantic County Department of Public Works at 609-645-5830.

Animal carcasses found on local Hammonton roadways should be reported to the Hammonton Police Department at 609-561-4000 or the Hammonton Public Works Department at 609-567-4336. 

Wildlife that appears sick or that died for reasons that aren’t apparent can be reported to the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife Hotline by calling 877-WARN-DEP (877-927-6337). Do not report obvious road kills. This phone is answered 24/7/365. The number can also be used to report a major wildlife disease or mortality incident involving a large number of animals. Animals infected with rabies will display bizarre, sometimes aggressive, behavior with neurologic signs such as circling, wobbly gate, strange vocalizations and seizures. Persons witnessing animals acting like this should avoid being bitten; but if a person is bitten or exposed to the rabid animal they should seek prompt medical attention.
